Peaceful Pastures Meat CSA
Winter 2010-2011 Season Information (November-April).
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a great way to save money over regular, retail prices. Each monthly installment is 20-22 pounds of meat + and handmade bath and body product. As always, our meat is delivered frozen with each cut individually wrapped and labeled. The packaging will allow it to stay well in the freezer for at least a year, so don’t worry if you don’t think you can gobble up the full installment before you receive the next one. CSA subscribers save 15-20% off our retail pricing!
This is a true CSA; each month you will receive a share of what has been harvested which can include some or all of the various meats. As lamb and goat are a small part of our operation (relative to the other species) they will be included at times in the CSA but are not a large part of such. Any of the retail cuts on our web site can be in the CSA.
Deadline for Winter CSA sign-up is October 31, 2010. You may pay the half or full cost of the CSA up front or with any remaining balance due by February 1, 2011. Note: When signing up for a CSA subscription in the shopping cart, please indicate in the "Comments" section at check out the following information: 1. Pick-up location. 2. CSA GENERAL INFORMATION
As you may know, CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. With a CSA program, participating members of the community enjoy regular deliveries of food throughout the season. Basically, you are buying a "share" of the years production. The community benefits greatly from having access to farm direct, sustainably produced products. Community Supported Agriculture keeps the small farms alive and healthy and part of the community, where they belong. The food provided is fresh, organically grown, and far superior to standard supermarket fare.
Meats produced by Peaceful Pastures are not certified organic, mainly because regulating agencies create too much red tape and raise our overhead and consumer prices. But the animals are kept pastured, with ACRES of room to roam. Their diets are pasture-based rather than grain based, which mimics the natural eating pattern of these animals and creates a healthier meat, much richer in Omega-3 fatty acids than supermarket fare. They are never given hormones or antibiotics, and pesticides are not used. The meat is naturally lean and DELICIOUS!! If you're looking for a healthy, humane, ethical, environmentally sustainable source for meat, this is it!
Peaceful Pastures CSAs are a GREAT value! You will help support a local farm that Grows Green, you will receive 20-22 pounds of meat for only $5.00/pound and there is no sales tax and no delivery fee!
Just like a vegetable CSA, you are buying a share of the farm for a season, so you do not get to pick and choose what you get with any particular pick up, BUT you may add a retail order to any installment without paying a delivery fee.
What is in each CSA? Just like a vegetable CSA installments will vary from month to month, depending upon what we have harvested. Generally speaking, each month will contain ground beef, sausage or ground pork and whole chicken. Customers subscribing to the pork free CSA will enjoy ground lamb or a bit more ground beef instead of sausage or ground pork. We TRY to include a roast in each installment as well as a premium cut such as steaks (beef, lamb or goat), pork chops, ham steaks, etc. CSAs can include any of the Peaceful Pastures retail cuts, but will NOT include kidney, tongue or oxtail. Don't forget the bath product each month! You will enjoy soap, bath salts or bath oils, all handmade by Jenny!
What if I have a conflict and cannot meet you at my drop off location? You have 3 options: 1) Notify us in advance of your regular scheduled pick up and arrange to meet us at a different drop off location within 2 weeks or 2) Come to the farm to pick up.
Do you offer half shares? Not yet, but possibly in the future. Keep in mind that your meat is frozen and will remain in sound condition in your freezer for over a year! You are also free to find another person with whom to split your CSA. Remember that you can always buy our meats at retail quantity and pricing if a CSA doesn't fit your current needs.
How and when do I pay? Half of the amount is due at sign up, with the balance due by February 1, 2011. We happily take all credit/debit cards, personal checks, Pay Pal and of course, cash.
